John the Revelator Goes to Brooklyn
Around Prospect Heights brownstone stoops arranged in file like a Rolodex the daughters of Brooklyn wear the apocalypse like a shoulder bag full of stones the daughters scurry ahead of some fleeing rats they are as far from Zion as a stone’s throw still they are reaching for any sign that’s coming a sign for pain and a sign for law five more stops to come
I visited my daughter in Brooklyn this weekend. We walked until my feet and back objected. We saw those rats and graffiti and an astounding book fair and a concert. We ate fabulous food, Jewish and Thai. We had booze and saw cherry blossoms. I can’t imagine living there, and somehow I can’t imagine her being somewhere else already. It felt like a place amidst profound change, but maybe that’s just how it always is.

Whether the revelation is pain or law, it is coming—Well done, Mathew!
