Welcome to RiverWords poems & writings!
Hello from poet and writer Mathew Snyder
In May 2022, I challenged myself to write a poem each week for a year. It worked. Here’s one of them that seems fitting here.
Let me rhyme for you Let me speak in tongues Decipher the way of my spirit Let me show you things in disguise Read with the intensity You give to matters mundane Let me go insane You see? I’ve rhymed Let me lift the hem of my cloak I’ll show you my tattoo My cliché reminder That fate is not special Let me write a terrible poem That discomfits you In a way that we understand Each other’s pain Let me be unequal Let me show you contrast So you’ll know good when you see it Do good when you see it Let me read this years from now And be wrong about it all All of it, deeper than my tattoo Down to the bone
Now, I’m writing weekly poems ongoing in this SubStack newsletter, brought to your inbox. My poems are soul-searching and murky, hopeful, wry and as true as I can make them. Poetry is connection and opens pathways through the muck.
I never considered myself a poet until recently. I’m a fiction writer — find my spy novel, The Hidden Vector, on Amazon and Audible!
Meanwhile, we Midwesterners say “thank you” to a fault, for damn near anything. We’re expert thankers. The trick is we really mean it. So I mean this when I say it.
THANK YOU for reading!
