See, this is a reason I like your writing: It's got such a great structure. Take this passage for example

"and crow and eagle feathers

owls and foxes and wheat sheaves

about the wind and aerodynamics"

The single syllable 'thuds' let you stomp towards that light, 5 syllable aerodynamics. Like a run up to flight. Clever writing Mathew!

That's wild! I was just listening to that song last night! It's one of my favorites. Huge Dylan fan.

I don't usually like poems and never really have. I don't know why. I love language and word play, music and rhythm, although I don't have much of the last on the list I mentioned myself. I’ve been dipped into the great vat of Western thought through my education in the liberal arts. Yet, I still can't get into poetry. For whatever reason, though, your poem really got me. Thank you

Take it where you can get it, I always say! More seriously, thanks, Andrew. I consider that high praise. Very glad it got you!

I do love figs! But then again I hate sunburns.

Powerful, rhythmic, incredibly evocative. I found a kind of complex assonance in "hexagons...owls and foxes" that was just so cool to experience. Thanks, Mathew!

What an incredible poem! I loved hearing you read it and am thrilled you have shared the inspiration your sleep apnea brings with us! (I too have a knack for remembering my dreams thanks in part to sleep apnea 🤣)

I agree with Brandon that the way you structure your poem enhances your wonderful and evocative language.

Ha! Yes, that pesky apnea. I actually like remembering my dreams. Sometimes they're weird and anxious. But mostly they are just wonderfully strange.

This is really excellent, Mathew. The idea of Icarus's fall and what is experienced in the falling seems as if it's coming from a place that KNOWS. Truly excellent writing, Mathew!

What an exceptional poem, Mathew! I hate to wish insomnia and sleep apnea on anyone... but heck, it seems to be working for you...
